Mission Statement:

The Urban Initiative is a movement that empowers urban artists and taggers to contribute to the beautification of our cities. Through the use of positive graffiti, impactful typography, and creative expression, we aim to inspire communities, foster resilience, and create a better urban environment, both individually and collectively.

We believe in transforming defaced walls into canvases for messages of hope, unity, and progress. We aim to prevent vandalism by providing alternatives to tagging on public property and offering artists the opportunity to contribute their work in a positive and controlled manner.

1. Artist Outreach and Education:
   We will reach out to urban artists, graffiti enthusiasts, and taggers, inviting them to participate in our initiative. Our program will educate artists on how to create art that uplifts communities while protecting the integrity of city property.
    
2. Designated Creative Spaces:
   We will partner with city officials, local businesses, and property owners to create designated art spaces where artists can showcase their work. This can include outdoor mural spaces, community art walls, and temporary installations. These spaces will allow for creative freedom without damaging city infrastructure.
    
3. Portable Art Installations:
   Instead of tagging on walls and structures, artists will be encouraged to use portable materials such as:
    
   • White banners (heavy-duty and weather-resistant)
   • Paintable fabric that can be displayed in various locations
   • Panels or boards treated with primer that can be installed and removed as needed
   • These materials allow the artwork to be easily moved to new locations, displayed in galleries, or even auctioned for community fundraising efforts. This approach also ensures that the city’s property values are not negatively impacted, and costly restoration efforts are avoided.
      

1. Graffiti Materials and Paint Primers:
   We recommend high-quality, eco-friendly materials to ensure that the art is sustainable and doesn’t harm the environment:
    
   • Graffiti Paint: Montana Cans, Belton Molotow, and Loop Colors offer high-quality, low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) spray paints that are vibrant and environmentally responsible.
   • Primers: Artists should use primers like Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer or Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer, which create a smooth surface for long-lasting artwork while protecting surfaces underneath.
   • Paintable Fabrics: Artists can use heavyweight canvases, synthetic fabrics, or even vinyl banners, which are durable and easy to install.
